Using Flashcards

Flashcards are considered an effective tool for memorizing any kind of information. Flashcards are widely used in educational institutions to teach students of nursery and playgroup by giving them recognition of alphabets letters and counting letters.  Alphabet Flash Cards are most commonly used for this purpose. Aside from this use of flashcards, these can be used for variety of information like meaning of vocabulary words, mathematical formulas, history facts and correct spellings of words. Flashcards can be used to enhance learning process. One can easily prepare flashcards as per need. Flashcards can contain pictures too.

Some tips are going to be shared with you that will help you getting most out of using flashcards:

  • Flashcards can be used from both sides. For instance, to learn a new vocabulary word you can write this word on front side of this card and definition or key points about this word on the back side of this card. You can also place picture related to this word on the back side.
  • To better utilize flashcards, you can carry a stack of blank cards with you. It will help you in this way that whenever you will come across of piece of information and you want to remember it, you can pick one card from card stack and can note information on this card. You should organize your cards into a deck relevant to each subject or topic. If you will put cards for different subjects in the same deck, it will just confuse you and not more than that.
  • Using colorful flashcards will help you recalling distinctive characteristic about information on a flashcard. For instance, if you are going to use flashcards for vocabulary words, you can use different colors for words. Sharp colors such as green and blue can be used for positive words like delightful, excellent, nutritious etc. and red or yellow color can be used for negative words such as suspicious, resentful, threatened etc. Similarly, neutral colors like white or tan could be used for neutral words. Color selection is up to you and your consistency that you have with using colors.
  • For best use of flashcards, it is important for you to avoid putting too much information on these cards. Each card must contain single piece of information. Too much information will make this card a piece of paper that you may have tear-off from your notebook.
  • When you are going to review flashcards, shuffling them will serve you a lot. If you always study cards in same order, it will make it difficult for you to remember a piece of information when it is not in that order in which you have studied.
  • To better illustrate information contained on flashcard, you can draw or add a picture relevant to information. More work you will do for making a flashcard more distinctive, it will easier for you to recall information on the card.
  • You should carry your cards with you whenever appropriate. If you have flashcards with you, you will be able to review them while eating a meal, riding on school bus, waiting on line, during long trips, in bed before you go to sleep etc.
